GM sold off most of their 4.5 prototype engines on some months ago. A few of them wound up on eBay. GM can't sell prototype engines as "engines", so these were supposedly sold as scrap - being damaged in some way that was supposed to make them unusable. However, they weren't ruined.

I read about one of them that is destined for a Corvette conversion.

Anyway, this I think shows that the engine has no real future at GM. GM would have kept them; used them to continue development and testing, or as display or service models.

GM has received continuous encouragement from the diesel communities for nearly 10 years to produce a light-duty diesel. It's a complicated subject, and while I remain hopeful, I don't think the 4.5 will happen for many reasons.
