I'm just studying connecting rods and i want to see some pictures of broken ones, I really want to see pics of the side beam so I can see if there is a relationship between quality of forgings between runs.

Got any?

I haven't broken a rod yet, don't intend to, studying my parts lot of these things so I can cull out stuff I really don't want.

Thanks!

What about a thrown rod? ;) I have an '85 block sitting on the shop floor with a rod wedged between the crank and block. I'm pretty sure it was caused by an oil pressure loss due to the wrong oil filter being installed. The cap came off and the rod flew off the crank and got lodged against the block.

Only looking for ones that have broken on the beam, not lost the rod cap.

If I can determine a common factor of weaker rods, I'd like to employ it.

John I have a couple of photos that I could email you but it wont let me post them as they are to large, I only have the lower half of the rod (the top half attached to the piston went to scrap long ago) but it bent / broke on the I beam after a head gasket let go. This came out of a late 2000 model (Thicker main webs and Updated) GM Produced Block. Dont know if the cross section photo of the I beam will do you much good as the end of the rod got pretty beat up after it broke in two. It gouged two cylinders. With all the damage I was suprised to find that other than taking the camshaft out (How I dont know) the Crankshaft and block were relatively un harmed. Currently getting the two cylinders sleeved and the motor rebuilt at the machine shop as we speak. PM me your email address and Ill send them to you.
