View Full Version : Crankcase Ventilation vs Oil Use

I failed to mention in my post "Happy With My LLY" that I had recently installed a crankcase ventilation kit available from a vendor on this forum and I used only 1/2 quart of oil during my recent 6,000 trip from Florida to Yellowstone and return. Prior to venting the crancase externally it was not uncommon for me to use a quart of oil every 1000 miles when towing.
I also no longer have the proverbial damp oil ring where the intercooler tube meets the blue silicon hoses. Periodically while on the trip, I would blot the end of the crankcase vent hoses with a tissue and never, ever dedected a single drop of oil.

Based on my observation, I'm a firm believer that the OEM turbine inlet connection was creating a slight negative pressure in the crankcase breather hose and to some extent was "sucking" oil vapor out of the crankcase. If you are having a problem with oil useage, you might want to try venting your crankcase to the atmosphere.
