i hooked the pos, neg, and blue brake wire to my pigtail but there is no place on the pigtail for the red brake wire. do i have to splice this in to the brake pedal stop light switch. if so where is the switch wire. also there is a brake light and trailer light wires on the pigtail. are these neede since the trailer plug at the back of the truck already has lights wired from the factory? oh and its a drawtite.

This is as good a forum as any.
What year truck? If you are using the OEM style plug-in harness (plugs into the bus on the firewall, forward of the E-brake pedal), it should have a lead for the brake switch circuit (almost all controllers use it). You shouldn't have to do any other splicing/tapping. If you're doing it any other way, you'll have to give more details. An aftermarket harness might not have all the necessary leads, by design or err. That's a problem with many aftermarket products.

The OEM harness has 2 wires for lights. Do i need these since i already have lights at the hitch from the factory.

The OEM brake controller harness provides these leads for the circuit signal, not to operate any lights. You do not need/want to use these FOR lighting. They are there for brake controller input.
Maybe I'm not understanding what you are asking....Does your harness NOT have a lead for the brake pedal switch signal? If it doesn't, something is wrong. The wires should be tagged (or you should have a diagram with it), and the colors may not match the controller wires. Your Drawtite controller is a simple install, and has no special need to accommodate anything not standard. The Drawtite Activator series controllers are made by the same mfg as Reese, and only differ in the labeling, regardless of model. Batt+, Batt-, brake pedal switch signal, and axle brake output should be all of the connecting you need to do. The trailer plug connector will work the lights independent of anything you do with the brake controller, as the only thing you will be adding with the install is the brake control power.
