steering column noise

what can cause a rubbing noise in the steering column . its sound like it in the cab and doesn`t matter to the right or left side on a 2007 2500 hd sierra

The steering shaft passes through a rubber boot on the fire wall and it can make a rubbing noise as the wheel is turned .. The clock spring (SIR Coil) in the steering wheel can also make a slight sound as the wheel is turned .. my 03 has done this since new .. :)
