I have a problem somewhere with the air intake heater and during the summer I just clear the check engine light but now that cooler weather is here it will keep coming back.

I live in Texas where I doubt this heater is really needed.

What temp does this thing alarma at? It seems it comes on when the temp is somewhere around 40 deg maybe a little lower.

Can I bypass the heater or relay causing the check engine light and will it cause any harm letting it go?

thanks for any help

It shouldn't code above 60-70° ambient. Most of the codes for the heater are the same for failed glow plug(s), so you might check them. The heaters rarely fail. The heater and glow plug relays, on the other hand, do fail. If it is a relay, don't replace only the relay. The entire controller (including all the relays) is cheaper than one individual relay. Above extreme cold temps (like you'll never see in Texas), the glow plugs and heater are there to appease the EPA, and little else.

what is the name of the parts that I will need, heater relay control???

thanks again

For many high performance applications we remove the heater entirely. We then disable operation and diagnostics in the ECM programming.

If it is just the heater itself, I think I have a bag full of "take out" units here some place.
