tire size on 2011

I just bought a 2011 silverado 2500 diesel with 265-17" tires. Can I put 285-17's on the truck with no problems ?

An option for the 2011's is 20' wheels. This option is available on both the 1500, and the 2500HD trucks, so you shouldn't have a problem with just bigger 17's. Do these new trucks still come with a 16" spare?

Our's came with the 17" spare. I don't think they have 16" tires or wheels on them anymore, and the rims on the 2011's are different and have a larger diameter lug pattern than previous years. Due to the new larger hubs brakes and rotors.
As for running a little larger 17" tire, I wouldn't think it would be a problem as long as the rim is wide enough to handle the larger tire, maybe someone on here know's and can tell you what the rim width's maximum safe tire size would be.
Clearence on the truck itself shouldn't be a problem.

My 2008 had a 17" wheel option. I stayed with the 16" tires. I increased tire size to the 265 16's which are the same diameter as the 17 so the electronics are set for the 17 tire. No problems with the Dunlops I used but I just replaced then with Wranglers and now when I cut hard backing I just touch the top edge of the one mud flap. The Wranglers have a flatter profile than the Dunlops. The wheel well still looks cavernous even with the bigger tire but it is all height.

The LT265/70-17s that come standard are a 31.7" diameter, the upgraded 18s (LT265/70-18) are 32.6" diameter, and the 20s (LT265/60-20s) are 32.5" diameter. Brands vary but a few LT285/70-17s I looked at were 32.8" diameter. I have the 20s and they are close to rubbing at full lock in the front with GM OEM rims so you may have to level it to go bigger.

This may help in deciding. Unless they have changed I was told GM only has the tire options they provide available in their programmers. Third party ones may be able to program in other sizes. A small difference is not critical electronically but watch the width is still withing the space in thw well and the range of the rim.
