I do know that the 2005 had issues with the gauge cluster and a bulletin or some formal notice was issued and the gauge cluster was replaced free of charge. You may want to do a search here as I do know that there were several threads sometime back on this. However, your problem seems to be a bit more haunted-like.

Dunno for sure, but it sounds like there's something funky with the ignition switch...

You can also get info from Alldatapro (with a subscription or a friend) and get info on all TSBs (technical service bulletins) for your year model. It will also give recalls and campaigns (volunteer fixes, so to speak).

Here's an example for what you may find.
I ran this last night.

I spoke of the LB7 in my opinion after owning a 2001 and a 2002 model. Both failed. The 2002 was on it's third set at 98k miles. It went to the auction block and I came home with a new 2007 LBZ. I haven't yet put 5000 miles on it.

Well it has been a few days I took the truck to a dealer. They found a wire that had rubbed thru next to the powerstering pump that goes to the PCM (Power Control Module) I wish I knew how they knew where to look. I have a hard time beleaving they have a computer that can trace down a wire in the harness. Well at least it is fixed.

Speaking from an electrician's perspective:

If you know what wire you're trying to trace to find a suspected break, it isn't hard to introduce a signal to that wire that can be picked up by a probe. The signal will stop at the break in the wire...

Sounds like you found a decent dealership mechanic. They seem to be harder to find lately, usually they just want to throw parts at it.
