I need help disabling my 2011 gmc duramax door chime. I have not picked truck up yet, dealer says no way to get rid of it. I suggested cutting wire in door to latch, he says radio will keep playing when i get out. Must be some way though. Thanks

There's a few bells and whistles I'd like to opt out of on my '05, the door chime being one of them. Or the automatic door locks (can't NOT have them engage). One would think that as smart as these trucks are there'd be a way. Back on my '96 all you had to do was remove the buzzer to kill the chime. Now it plays through the radio's speakers. I wonder which wire one would have to remove from the radio's wiring harness to stop that input (it would kill the door chime, headlight chime, seatbelt chime, what else?)?

It'd be nice to play the stereo with the door open and not have to hear the chime...

On the 2005 you could try removing the data line from the radio and see if it works ok. I installed an aftermarket radio in my 07 trailblazer ss and did not use the recommended wiring harness and module to enable class 2 communication and was rid of all chimes. The 2011 wont work to do that as the amp communicates via class 2 data to the radio. Could change out the radio and amp with aftermarket components though.

When I can, I park so I can open the passenger's side door to listen to the radio. (E-cab, open front and rear doors...) When I can't, I flip the latch to the closed position with my finger. This stops the chime. Just don't forget to open the latch before you slam the door shut; you could damage the latch. I usually prop something. like a snow scraper, in the door to remind me.
