2005 Duramax 2500HD allison---I still am looking for answers for the noise the front axle was making at highway speed and also at low speed. The noise is like loose wheel bolts in a hubcap but if i put it in 4hi the noise goes away. We have checked all parts and changed oil in differential and no evidence of chips etc.On a 1500mile trip it only did it 3 times. Any ideas would be helpful.

Lift up the front wheels and check for hub play.

What do the tire wear patterns say?

The tire wear is excellent and front wheel bearings and hubs are tight.

Is the front driveshaft spinning while driving in 2WD? The front axle disconnect is supposed to be monitored by the vehicle systems to ensure it's disengaged when 2WD has been selected, and will alert the driver if it's not. but....

There was no notice of any codes but i did wonder if it is possible for the slip ring or whatever engages axles could be partially engaged. There is a positive engagement when i put it in 4hi and it releases OK. Still looking for ideas.
