keeps running!

I have finally taken my 1990 Suburban out of mothballs and been driving it around. The battery light glows when driving and sometimes even when turned off. It also has a volt meter which shows 16-18 V when driving. I removed the alternator and had Kragen check it, all OK.
One time today it would not stop running until I removed the red wire from the pump. I feel all these problems are related some how. Does anyone have any ideas?
By the way this 6.2 smokes less than my 1982 300d mercedes. Thanks

Seemingly unrelated, odd ball electrical behavior often can be traced to bad ground connections. Check especially the engine to frame and body to frame grounds.
