Last winter I backed my 2009 into a concrete light pole base while plowing. Very low speed event, but it caught the bumper at the very end and curled it into the quarter panel. The tailgate already had a soft dent and scratch through to metal in the same vicinity, so it was time to shell out $500 for the deductible, and get things right again.

When I picked up the truck yesterday, the bodyman informed me that they decided to replace the entire box side to make sure the fit at the taillight and tailgate were good, and to avoid having any mud in the tight corner area where it may later be a rust problem.

Truck looks great, but wow...$3000 it cost to make a relatively small 'crunched' corner go away.

I hate to jinx myself, but that is the first bodywork of any kind done since I started this company in 2000, and put on 800K+ miles. There have been a few stratches and dings we overlooked, but nothing that we turned into insurance to fix.

Sounds about right Mark. My 94 is shedding and I have been looking arround for paint. Two tone, Blue over silver anywhere from $2k to $4.2k depending on one coat or color coat/clearcoat with a few minor dent and wrinkle repairs and masking as opposed to removing trim ect. Cheaper was Maiko and higher was an independent shop.

Where is Earl Scheib when we need him?

"I'm Earl Scheib, and I'll paint any car, any color for $29.95. No ups, no extras,"

There is an Earl's down the street from me. I remember "I'll paint any car, any time for $29.95." Course it would peal and blow off in no time.. .
