I have a 98 gmc doner 6.5TD complete truck, and would like to put it into a 99 2500 gmc crew cab. the question is how much of the wiring has to be changed in the cab to run the diesel or is most of the wiring just under the hood & such

The harnesses in the cab need to be changed as well. It's a big chore for sure but if you already have all the pieces you have everything you need.

the harness in the cab, does this mean the whole thing like radio, wimdows, locks, etc or is threre one seperate for the computer

I'm under the strong opinion that the 97/98 are very much the same under the hood. The 99/2000 trucks are the most identical IMO. I have a 2000/3500/ pickup2w/D/4L80e complete truck wiring harness.I have a GM manual set of books for year 2000.These books & wire harness are for sale.I parted out a 2000 /3500 2WD truck & have these parts.including the PCM. I can ship. My ph.# . is 949 485 0746. Joe

I do have the complete harness for the 98 diesel as well as the 99 2500(it had a 350 in it) I'm more concerened with the mating of the 6.5 into the 99 and how much of the harness I have to change out. I'm not sure about the interior wiring to make it run. I do realize that the whole under hood will have to be changed for the 6.5 as well as the computer under dash

Just an opinion... I would leave almost all of the original gas electrical systems intact. This'll allow the ABS and most other things to operate as expected. Then, I'd convert the 6.5 to mechanical fuel injection. Simpler, more reliable, easier to get it working...

How would i convert to mechanical fuel injection? Does that mean I would need a differant pump then run wires to it from existing gas wiring

Mechanical fuel injection would mean, essentially, using the same component parts as that used by the 1992-93 6.5TD. So yes, a Stanadyne DB2-4911 fuel injection pump and matching fuel injector lines would be the best choice. The 4911 requires an ignition circuit and a thermal switch activated cold advance circuit - that's it.
