What are you going to do as far as transmissions? The Dodge A518 transmission was an absolute joke behind the Cummins.

It should be a nice conversion and I think you'll be very happy with the Cummins when you're done. However, if you plan to push any more than the stock 160 hp, the Dodge automatic transmission isn't going to hold up unless you plan on spending $$$ to build it up. Even at stock power levels, these transmission were not known for holding up. Before going through all the work with the conversion, you might want to look into different transmission options. I went with the NV5600 6 speed manual on my 1990 Cummins and so far, I couldn't be happier.

I hear you on the weak tranny,. but it'll have to do with a simple transgo kit and a freshen up,.
i think if i,m the driver it'll last longer ,
An allison conversion would be great,. or maybe one of the aisin O/D's from behind a hino,.
After working all day rowing gears,. i don't want a daily driver stick shift,.
