I was reading KenZ's thread about his Allison shifting issues and one comment was made about the transmission "relearning" vs resetting to default shift points.

I tow a heavy 5th wheel every few weeks and after a tow I do notice my shifting is firmer than prior to the tow for a while. I understand what causes this, but I can't help but wonder how long the relearning process is both when towing for the first time in a while and then the relearn back to non towing.

I am a very non-aggressive driver and don't drive fast or make jack rabbit starts or hard braking. I do use tow/haul when towing.

Thanks guys.

My understanding is the trans has 2 sets of parameters: one for normal mode and one for tow/haul. If you tow in tow/hall and don't use it otherwise, it shouldn't have much if any residual "memory".

It learns dozens of throttle/load/rpm settings, as the conditions occur. If you always drive light footed it will not learn the heavy load parameters nearly as quickly.
