Hey guys, I am new here. I am in the process of picking up a 85 1/2 ton suburban with a 6.2 in it. The tranny is shot but the engine is good. I am just wondering what you guys would say is the best idea for a engine swap in it. I like the idea of a 6bt cummins but I am not 100% sure yet. I want to have 3-400hp and maybe 600+ fp torque. What do you guys think is the best mechanical diesel engine to put in that truck for good preformance on a low budget?

Cummins 6bt 12 valve is the only engine that comes remotely close to fulfilling your wishes at a "low budget".

Actually maybe a 4bt could get there cheaply? For a 6BT you'll need a suspension lift and some motor mounts. I think there is one company that may make them, otherwise custom. Either way, you can't just throw an engine at it "on the cheap" like some toyotas.

If money and time are no object call this guy:

or just drool at his build.
