Today I saw 6 Isuzu NPRs carried on flatbeds, the NPRs were only cab & chassis, and carried the Ryder logo. What was interesting though was that inside the right frame rail resided a gas turbine engine - some sort of APU I suppose but what for? Couldn't get close enough for an in depth look.

Any ideas?

The regular drivetrain seemed to all be in place.

Bunch of these popping up on the larger rigs. Supplies heat/AC and power to the cab and engine when stopped for the night. Don't have to idle the rig all night. Haven't seen one on this small a truck, but they may have been a special order, proof of concept thing.

Doubt that they are gas turbines. Not to efficient . They were probably a unit that is called a Tri-Pack manufactured by Ingersol Rand (Thermo King). They are installed on OTR tractors to provide heat, air, power and to keep the tractors eng at temp while shut down.
They have a two cyl. diesel to run compressor and the cooling system provides the heat.
There are other manufactures that do the same thing but can't put a name to them.
