Speaking of a gooseneck or 5th wheel set-up.
I'm talking about Total combined weight.

It depends on the specific year and model. The latest of both: 3500HD is comparable to F550. GCWR = 26K.

I have a guy claiming this from his ford, don't know which model:
~23k trailer + ~9k truck = ~32k
Too heavy for a F550 so what Ford pick-up would this guy need to be legal?

F650 or 750, depending on state laws. It would have to spec'd and registered for the weight class, and requires a CDL.

Actually....
He'd be much better off with a Freightliner Business Class. They're less costly to buy and operate, offer better powertrains, ride better, more durable, and they're not a Ford.
mine rolls in at 30,500 lbs GCWR.
