Do you have the old stick style glow plug conroller or the newer style?

I would do a new contoller modification. The old stick style one might be your problem. The newer style is a lot better. You can leave the old controller bolted in but just unhook the wiring connector to it. You can remove it also and put a pipe plug in it's place. A local hardware store would have that. It's cheap. You don't need the obsolete block off plate for that. Get a copy of the Diesel Page 6.2 Engine booklet. It will explain how to upgrade the controller. You can also install a manual glow plug heating circuit in case the controller "acts up". I did all this to my 84 suburban. It had the old stick style controller too. Hope this helps. ;)
