When I arrived home tonight my truck was idling at about 1200 on the tach. I shut it off and restarted it and it still did the same thing. Does anyone have an idea what may be causing this? The engine runs smooth otherwise and there is no loss of power.
I have 241,000 kms on it.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

A correction to the above post. The idle is actually just below 800 rpm. What is the normal idle? I think it is about 400 isn't it?
All the dealer offered me this morning was, bring it in, so i'll drive it a few more days and see what happens.

Check coolant temp with scan tool. This influences idle speeds.

John, how does coolant temp influence fuel injection? Just curious I did not know this

Idle speeds are higher when ECT is cold.

My list of "problems is getting longer. It looks more and more like a computer problem.
Now I have a high idle, engine temp (according to the gauge) is only going half way but I still have lots of cab heat and today the air bag light on the dash came on and stayed on.
I go to the dealer Friday.

I would check all the grounds on the truck if it were me. It wouldn't take very long and bad grounds do some wierd things (not just on vehicles)

Here is what it took to fix the three problems mentioned above.

For the high idle .. codes were P0101, P0128

They replaced the Mass air Flow sensor and the air filter itself. They said it was plugged but I know six months ago it wasn't.

As for the Temp gauge not reading right, they replaced both thermostats. As far as I know this is the first time they were changed so 12 years isn't bad I guess.

The Air Bag Sensor, - Code was B0080

To fix that they replaced the Front Impact Sensor

I got all parts at trade price and a reduction in labour rate but the bill was still over $1150. The worst part was the MAF sensor which listed at $557.00 Talk about an expensive part!!!

Bottom line is the truck appears to be running well and all the warnings etc are gone!!! My wife though thinks it's time I sold the truck!!! :D:D:D
