In 2009 I removed both of the batteries in my 2006 LBZ and the hour meter reset from 3,900 hours to 0 hours. Last night WHILE I WAS DRIVING the hour meter reset from 1,700 hours to 0 hours again for no apparent reason. Does anyone have any idea what could have caused it to reset. I like to keep both mileage and hour meter maintenance records.

Poor design, in my opinion. My '03 did the same thing. So does my '05. Seems to be on the basis of whenever the computer feels like it.

My 2009, too at 1500 hours. Stupid.

Just based on how often this happens I conclude that "hours" isn't considered to be important by GM. The odometer reading, though, is sacrosanct, requiring a GM only programmer to reset or alter the accumulated mileage (due to fed/st laws). The instrument cluster can be removed from a vehicle and stored long-term without losing the odometer reading.

I learned this when I bought a salvage cluster for our Duramax conversion project truck. This cluster had sat for a year or two before I got it, yet it showed 1931 miles on the odometer when first powered up. I talked to our local GMC tech about resetting the odometer once the truck was on the road, but the process was onerous and required tedious paperwork to change it. I decided not to...

My hour meter is reads 12,521 hours on my 05....I know it's had a few battery changes and the meter is not resetting.

Mine reset itself when it had about 2,000 hours on it. There was not a battery change involved at the time.
