The 2014 Ram 1500 (2014 MY spring 2013) will be offered with a 3.0 liter diesel built by (the letter that comes after U broke on my keyboard) M Mortori owned by Fiat and meets US standards. This is a very good engine and coupled with the offered 8 speed auto transmission with a guess-ta-ment EPA 23/28 and a tow rating of 7500 lbs. is setting a standard others will have to follow. Banks is modifying this motor for military applications with very impressi e numbers. Also Ram is to produce a 3500 rated to tow 30,000 lbs. with the 6.7 Cummins sporting 850 foot pounds torque.

That's good to hear. Maybe that'll spur the others to get in line.

BTW, you can get your V back, at least for now, by using: [alt] + 118 (LC-v); and [alt] + 86 (CAP-V). Or, copy one letter, and paste as needed.

I have been following the development of this engine closely. The interesting thing is they are using a strange material for the block. Compressed Carbon Iron? They are saying the entire engine, with all the bits attached, is coming out just under 500 lbs.

Ownership of the company is 50% Fiat and 50% GM. Chrysler is is also going to offer this engine in the Jeep Cherokee. Could this engine be the replacement for the Mini Max? We can only hope.

About time we get some reasonable diesels, in the mid HP ranges, on this side of the pond.

Good overview of the engine and what Gale Banks is doing to it is here:
