Have used Baldwin filters exclusively, ever since I read Dr. Lee's filter shoot-out from years ago. Been very happy with them. However, I'm getting ready to order up some filters for myself and several other guys, here in the park in Brownsville, and one of the guys spoke up and announced that he had been using Baldwins in his Ford for some time, but, when he took his 08 PS in for service a few weeks ago (Indiana), the Ford service manager informed him that he'd had five pickups with ruined engines because of Baldwin filters being used. Said that, somehow, the Baldwin shut off delivery of oil to the engines, and they fried! My friend is now scared to death of using another Baldwin filter. Anybody have any info for us?
Thanks,
DW

Kennedy sells Baldwin oil filters; maybe he has some insight on the issue?
Did a backflow preventer valve fail to open to forward flowing oil on startup?

I suspect that if the "rumor" is true, (which I, personally doubt) that these were cases of people using the wrong filter in their Furds.
I sent a note out to Baldwin over the week-end. In any event, none of this will change my practice of using Baldwins in all my stuff.
I used to be a service Tech at a Ford Dealer. We had lots of Powerstrokes come in running rough or stumbling under loads that the issue could be contributed to improper oil filters.
Typically folks would run WIX or Napa Gold (some say they are the same) and it was weird how we could remove them, put in a motorcraft one and the problem would go away instantly. These motors are VERY picky about things being perfect, and considering how many of them I've seen not make it to 100K miles, I would just run the motorcraft filters and leave them alone.
I know folks who still run Napa Gold Filters on their Powerstrokes and swear to not have any issues, but I've also noted that those guys are the ones that typically don't tow very often or very heavy. Mostly their trucks are used for back and forth to work, DD type driving.
If I remember correctly there was a TSB from Ford about this problem.
