1994 Blazer 6.5L TD let me down Saturday in Pueblo, CO on our annual trip from Denver to Tucson pulling the horse trailer. Leaving out the stress of the event, I will need psychological counseling on the failure of my unique vehicle, owned since new. It is sitting at Spradley Chevrolet where I picked up a Tahoe to continue the trip. In it's 165K mile life it has gotten comprehensive TLC including many TDP mods, always garaged and interior and exterior are both 9/10. Having the dealer put in a GM crate engine looks like $12K and perhaps $9K for a non GM engine and a smaller shop, this for a special truck that was worth maybe $7K. I guess the point of this post is to see if any TDP enthusiasts are interested in taking advantage of this situation while I try to decide how to proceed. Call me in Tucson at 520-748-2909 if you are interested.

Wow, those prices seem a little steep. My boss just paid $12K for a brand new 6.0L Powerstroke. Old one lasted 102K miles.....That included install.

Wish I were closer, I'd look into it. Lived in Tucson from 01-06, too hot for me.

Out of morbid curiosity - are you certain that it 'threw a rod' or is that a guess?

My reason for asking is that I owned TWO 1994 K3500s that BOTH broke crankshafts...

Hi Guys and Gals, Just checked the replies. Rotella T 15-40 every 2500 miles religiously. Could be a crank, big bang and vibration, dash lit up and big pool of oil underneath, engine seized. Sorry about pictures, it's the dark blue and white with blue cloth interior, otherwise just as you know them and a true 9/10.

Also, one of my options is to donate it to the auto tech school at Pueblo Community College. The 5.3L Tahoe I bought does a nice job towing but the mileage is startling, 8 mpg when we would get 12 with the 6.5, offset by the fuel price differential. It's more stable in the x-wind since it's longer and heavier but it won't fit as nicely in the garage.
