Hi All,

I'm a new member and have a question about DB2 pumps. My '93 6.5l turbo is currently running a db2831-4911 IP and it is getting tired. I've noticed the typical hard starts and now it is loosing power at the top end. I have a fresh db2831-5436 and the only difference I can find is that the 4911 is rated at 200hp and the 5436 is rated at 170hp. So my question is can the 5436 be tuned up to the 4911 specs? Would I run into any problems using the 5436 IP?

Thanks,
Ken

Speaking in very general terms and as a matter of opinion:

The pumps come in a few flavors. Essentially, the early pumps were 150HP pumps that could be turned up to approach the 190 range. The 4911 as a 190-200 HP pump could be turned up to run in the 240-250 range. The key here is that the larger pump running at or only slightly above rated spec will be much happier and more efficient than it would if turned up 20% or more.

the 4911 pump has some very different metering characteristics making it a better choice in terms of what I've heard referred to as "torque backup"

When we do a 4911 build they are expensive, but we do not cut corners and you typically get a new housing rather than a bushed used one.
