Broken T/H harness wire in the lever/column. Easy, inexpensive.

As Dmax Maverick stated it's the harness where it is fastened to the steering column with a plastic clamp and screw. What happens every time you move the shift lever the 2 wire harness wrapped in a thin vinyl jacket pivots back and forth at the clamp point eventually causing the wire to break, much like a coat hanger if you bend it back and forth enough it breaks. It's only a 2 wire switch leg that plugs into a female connector at the bottom of the dash below the column, you must remove the lower column cover to get to it. Read your manual on how to replace it since you will be working around the column air bag system and observe all precautions on disabling the air bag system.

It's not difficult, take your time. A haynes manual or chilton manual will explain it all.

GOOD LUCK

The easiest and most sure method of disabling the steering wheel air bag is to disconnect the yellow harness below the dash. It requires patience to take it apart, but you know 100% that the bag is disconnected and won't blow up in your face. Pretty sure youtube has a video on how to.

ahhh Here it is:

Also note, ALL of the airbag system connectors, and only those, are bright yellow. The steering wheel airbag connector is above the column, not far from the firewall. I pull the fuse, then disconnect it there, anytime I have to do any column work (or anything near the airbag system). Belt AND suspenders, in this case. It'll remind you if you forget to reconnect one of them.
