Anybody know a source for Luminosity Probes? Need a few...the only source I can find is Kent-Moore. They want $258 each and can't deliver for weeks!

I'll bite. What are luminosity probes?

Used to time a Mech. pump system. Install in glow plug. Best to rent one if you can find such.

A luminosity probe goes into the glow plug hole of a cylinder on the engine and senses the light of the explosion and sends a signal to a timing meter so engine timing can be set. It serves the same function as a the sensor clamped on the #1 cylinder plug wire of a gas engine to sense the ignition pulse. Since there is no electrical ignition on a diesel, you sense the actual explosion in the cylinder by the light. There is also a pulse sensor that clamps on the fuel line to the cylinder, but it is not as accurate. The fuel pulse happens about 10-20 degrees before the explosion. It is fine for "adjusting" the timing a few degrees accurately; but in-sufficient for "setting" the timing where you want it. Snap-On discontinued making them, and Kent-Moore wants $258. Any help would be appreciated!
