Okay, I replaced my bumper with an HD bumper. The OEM fog lights can't be used. So I am replacing them. I want to continue to use the fog light button on the dash but need to replace the OEM plug. So I decided to stick the wire into the plug to make sure the lights work. But it appears I have blown a fuse. The fog lamp indicator light on the dash is lit but no power to the lamps. Can't I just solder the + wires together and the - wires together and they should work off the dash switch?

And is the big square fuse under the hood what I blew?

It appears the old plug has black and purple wires. Isn't the purple the hot wire?

Give me a hand here as I don't have a wiring diagram.

Voltage polarity is irrelevant with incandescent lamps. If you want to wire them correct, use a meter and verify. If the wattage is significantly higher than the OEM lamps, it could cause the fuse to blow. You'll need to use a lamp that won't blow the fuse. Don't uprate the fuse to accommodate the lamps, as the wire harness is only designed to handle the OEM rated load. Uprating the fuse could cause other bad things to happen, like a fire. Plug in the OEM fog lamps and see if they work, and don't blow the fuse. You can also source the OEM WeatherPac connectors to use with your new lamps.

I replaced my original fog lamps with aftermarkets years ago (and since removed them). The dash button, indicator and lamps all worked fine. They were 55W, IIRC, and close to the OEM wattage.

I ran out to the garage and pulled the OEM bulb. It doesn't light up. So I'm pretty sure I blew the fuse. The new lights are more powerful. So as long as I can fix the assumed fuse problem, I'm going to bite the bullet and just replace them again with the OEM wattage.
