I am looking at buying a 1996 3/4 T burb 4x4 from a freind it has 112K miles on the clock and has been very well taken care of. How much longer do you think it (the 6.5) will last on the average? Also what should I be looking for before I buy it ?

Like anything there is never a guarantee. I just bought my 95 with 130,000 on it. Original owner, well maintained. Everything works great. I am hoping to see 200-250 before something lets go. Maybe more. But maintaining the vehichle is the key. My s-10 is a 91, 4.3 auto with 190,000 miles on it. Runs great, doesnt leak, doesnt use any oil and starts everytime. The body is ready to fall off and I am afraid if I hit the brakes to hard the bed might fall off. But it runs great. If you know the guy who owned it and took care of it, then I think thats all you really need to know.

Good luck
Todd

I have the same truck with over 300k on it, and there are others here with more. At 112k, it is just getting broken in!

It all comes down to good maintenance, how you work it, and a bit of luck in my opinion.

There are several running upwards of 300,000 miles with no major rebuilds and even some of those with no automatic transmission failures. Fuel systems seem to stand out as one high maintenance item, but my 5th pump is now over 85,000 miles.

Mine 99 went 97K before coolant in oil. Probably cracked block but haven't taken it apart yet. One engine rebuilder told me the 97-99 (and I think probably 2000) are pretty bad about the cracked blocks.
