I have a 1998 Chevy 1 ton dullie. It currently has the stock 6.5 diesel with a turbo. The motor has approx 350,000 miles. Still runs good as long as I replace the fender mounted pmd every few years.
I came across and bought a millitary 6.5 Na. The block has the 506 and the diamond in the valley. 12555506 # stamped on back of block. Its marked 06 11 k June 11 2003. It has been test fired then crated. The intake was pulled. Will this motor work in my 1998? Can I put a turbo on it? What kind of problems??? Electrical ect? Thanks for the help.

I picked up a similar crate engine the other month. Mine is a 12555506 0121N - January 21, 2006. Depending on how complete yours is, you can swap any necessary parts from your ’98 to the “new” block and swap it in.

I am planning a full teardown of my “new” block, just to make sure that everything is in order. I figure it is easier to take a look now than after I have it all installed.

It will work, and make a stronger foundation than your current 6.5. The NA will have smaller precups in the head. Your factory 6.5 heads will have the larger T precups in them. The smaller precups can limit power, but if your leaving your engine all stock, you probably wouldn't notice a difference. Or you could swap the T cups over from your factory heads to the new ones.
