1998 Sil- 6.5TB, Back In November coming through New Mexico, my engine just shut down. No sign of knocking just shut down. The dealer are telling me that my engine is shot. When we check the oil, it had less than one quart of oil. Had oil change 700 miles back. I was told by a parts store, that the engine have a shut off sensor for low oil. The engine try to turn over sound as the battery are to low. Can anyone tell me if this sound like the engine is locked up. If the engine is finish, I would like to know if their is a engine out there for sale with low miles or later model engine for this truck. Thank you for your comment

Seized piston rings due to low oil would cause hard starting like you describe. How did the oil get so low?

Best bet would be to pull the engine and determine what went wrong. You might be able to rebuild the one you have, reusing your accessories.

Find the root cause of the low oil situation, first.
