View Full Version : Leaf Spring Movement - concern?
While looking for another problem (found a locked up u-joint), we had the rear of the truck in the air. Doing a routine wheel bearing check we noticed a lot of play in the left side spring. We even took the shock off to make sure that was not the issue. About 1/2" of motion that is not present on the other side. Could not find a broken spring. Is this something to be worried about?

Where, exactly, is the play? What part(s) are moving?
More gap on each end of the springs on the side that moves when compared to the other side. When you can lift the wheel and watch the spring pack move back together.
If you are referring to how far the tails of the individual leaves "fan out" when lifted, the shock geometry affects this. One side will naturally hang lower than the other unless you remove the shocks. The RH shock is at a bit more of an angle and limits the travel.
So nothing to worry about then. Thanks for responses.
