I have a standard fully floating 8 lug / 14 bolt 10.5" non locking axle (have checked codes in glovebox) on a crewcab single wheel 3500 1998 ex USAF runaround...which they kindly donutted and destroyed the engine....and I came by this from Ebay through a bloke who bought it from a UK auction.
I also have a semi floating 8 lug / 9.5" axle off a z71 laid around bought from Ebay a while ago which has the g80 locker fitted....
My question is......can I use the locker/carrier in the 14 bolt axle? Anybody tried this one? before I set-to giving myself work pulling them both apart?
or am I barking up the wrong tree because they are altogether very different axles/carriers?

Unfortunately, the only thing similar between the two axles is the name - 14-bolt. Nothing is interchangeable between the two.

They are entirely different, end to end. The carriers won't fit in either. The 10.5 FF axle tubes won't accept the SF bearings, the 9.5 carrier won't accept the FF axles, and the pinions are different. There are also differences from year to year, and not all "G80" L/S or Lockers are the same, even in the same axle designation. "G80" is only the RPO code for "Locking Axle", and the same code spans decades, despite the hardware actually used for that year model. RPO codes are only a general indicator of the presence of an equipment feature. For example, L65 is the RPO for the HD 6.5L Turbo Diesel, while L56 is the code for the LD 6.5L Turbo Diesel. The same code is used from 1992 to 2003, with no distinction for technology or mechanical upgrades over the years.
