Were there ever any belt driven air compressors available for the 6.5 ???

We are planning to install air brakes on the Deuce and need a good air pump to handle the task.

I don't want to reinvent the wheel and adapt something if it is already available.

VMAC is the brand. EXCELLENT quality, unfortunately expensive.
I had service truck with one of these and it really worked good.

Would a modified a/c pump provide enough air? Lots of people use them for off-road applications.

Modified AC pumps are likely not going to cut it, except maybe an older YORK

This pump will be supplying the brakes and anything but perfect is not gonna cut it.

I need a pump that can handle 100% duty cycle and pumps when the unloader kicks in (air pressure drops to below 90 psi)

Same type of setup as a class 8 truck, except belt driven rather than gear drive.

The AC pump trick is fine for pumping up tires and air bag overloads etc.

Old trucks were belt driven. The old L190 International I learned on had a 460 gas v8 and IIRC air pump was belt driven. But you would have to build your own brackets.

yup.

Mill, lathe, welder and a huge hammer and we can make that pump grow to the side of a six and a half :D

The VMAC that we had on our service truck appeared to be a bolt on kit. Everything looked factory and it came with all the supporting hardware. It was an awesome set up. The truck had a 30gal air tank and we could run ANYTHING off of it. I think it was a 100% duty 30 CFM.:eek: It engaged with a switch and would run off of its own limiter. I think this truck was a 1995...? It might be a little overkill for just running a break system.

Those are the ones that I’m familiar with using off-road. I wasn’t sure what sort of numbers you were looking for as far as output required.

Heck, the 5hp, 80 gallon, 220V twin-stage compressor I have in the shop is only 21cfm and I don’t think it is 100% duty cycle. :eek:
