I would like to start out by saying that this is my first diesel so bear with me. My 97 6.5 is running rough and acts like its losing power. I got a few codes from advance but not sure where to start.
Iii
P0228 (tps)
P0251(injection pump)
P1696(wastegate solenoid)... Iknow I need to replace that. Any help would be greatful

running rough at idle or when accelerating or just cruising ?

Starts up just fine. It's when I go to accelerate is when it acts up. Going up hills it smokes (wastegate solenoid) but I'm not sure. Found some parts within reason and my brother in law said it would be smart to go ahead and replace them as well to be safe

Fix what you KNOW is broken, first.

Check your vacuum pump for proper operation. If you don't have at least a steady (no fluctuation) 22" Hg at the pump inlet, start with a new pump. A new pump will be 25"+. 20-22", or pulsating (at max vac.), is time for a new pump.

If you have good vacuum and the WG isn't holding tightly shut at idle, check for leaks, and the solenoid. You should see modulated 15" Hg at the WG actuator pod line.
