Howdy
Is there a reason that I can not use a standard oil fill cap on my 6.2 vs. the vented type that comes on military CUCV? It has enough blow by that over the time it stains the hood liner and makes a mess.

If it has a functioning CDR, it doesn't need a vented 710 cap. Also, if it does, it shouldn't have excessive blow-by, unless it has excessive blow-by. If it doesn't, fix/add it. Alternatively, you can install a catch-can (vapor condenser) to capture the messy stuff. Excessive oil vapor venting can also be a matter of your choice of oil brand and/or grade. Maybe block the vent (but not the CDR) and measure the crankcase pressure, if it continues. It should be 2" H2O, IIRC.
