Model year 1982 to 1991 6.2s are casting #14022660. They use a two-piece rear main seal. The 1982 block is red and all the later are black. Some people believe the first year, 1982 black blocks are stronger then the later due to a higher nickel content. True or not, who knows?

I’m not sure of the 388 number. There should be a date code that will be something like "D 15 4" or "G 20 6". The first letter is the date : A = January, B = February, and so forth. The first number (or pair of numbers) is the day of the month and the last number is the last digit of the year. For example, "D 15 4" would be April, 15th 1984.

What are you seeking to improve about the injection pump? They do wear out, so a rebuild may be in order.

Usually, those looking to boost performance of a 6.2L consider adding a turbo-charger. Check out the thread just below yours: http://www.thedieselpageforums.com/tdpforum/showthread.php?t=44618

I know, but fit a turbo engine and risk of this ..... there are no oil jets under the piston, and cylinder heads can break. ....

increasing the supply of diesel fuel without exaggeration does not improve? I do not want to mount a turbo ....

The date code - A035 - says it was cast January 03, 1995. The 929 blocks are 6.5 but don’t have the piston oiling.

This thread is stickied at the top of the page and has the block number and date code information: http://www.thedieselpageforums.com/tdpforum/showthread.php?t=24325
