Starter support bracket

Just got off the phone with my un friendly gm dealer 30.12$ for a starter support bracket for the ol 6.5! In 9 years the price has gone from 1.45$ to 15 plus a little over 15 for shipping . Can somebody tell me the thread pitch and diameter of the hardware to attach this beast the dealer didn't even want to talk to me so I didn't want to trouble him with any hard questions

Some time ago, someone (Robyn, I think) posted a diagram and measurements of the brackets and hardware. At $30+ for new, I would consider fabricating one locally. I've done this many times for tractors and heavy equipment, just not one, yet, for the 6.2/5. Angle iron, drill press and a little weld was all that was needed.

IIRC the bolt is a 10mm coarse thread.

The bracket shown is for the gear drive starter.

It is a metric, so don't try US standard.

I am not very handy building things it was easier to just swipe the card and know it will fit

Just an FYI....There are two different kinds. One for direct drive and one for gear reduction.

Thanks for the info can you tell me anything about the the bolt on the starter ? Also if there is two different style brackets i can about bet anything I got the wrong one do you happen to have the other part number ?

In the chapter on starters, our "6.2L/6.5L Diesel Troubleshooting & Repair Guide" shows pictures for both the 6.2L and 6.5L starter bracket, and lists the part numbers for each one.

there is a picture of two brackets but only one part number listed 23502557 for 89 to 99 6.5 and 14028931 for 82 to 88 6.2 does anybody have the part number for the other bracket ?

Well Guys guess what the 6.5 gods must have been smiling down on me because I got the right bracket ! i have read and re read the book I can not find the second part number that doesn't neccearily mean it's not there I will try to lose pics from the book . Anyway now we are ready to do some serious off road hauling and hopefully no more broken stater bolts

I was referring to what starter the bracket went with. One for direct drive and one for gear reduction. I am not sure if they ever used direct drive with a 6.5. But I know that I have had to remake brackets due to it being the wrong one. Most likely it was due to replacing a starter on a 6.2 with a gear reduction unit.

Im just thankful there's a site like this around its been very handy and the 3 books I bought are awesome lots of good info but when you said two different brackets I got nervous
