[First post] How do I find out what I have?

My first post here @ TDP!

Bought a 89 Chevy truck with a 6.2 for the engine and parts.
The plan is to put it into my 89 Chevy G30 4X4 van w/TH400HD.
I have a GearVender over/under auxiliary trans. in it already.
This should work out pretty well.

The valve cover sticker says 'Goodwrench 6.2', I assume it's a replacement or crate type motor.
Runs really well. (Needs new glow plugs as it starts hard).

Question:
Is there an easy way to identify what I have exactly?

I found info. on the web, but, I can't see behind the left head so I'm wondering if there is another option.

The real issue in trying to figure out what the beast is can be tough on these at this age.

If you can get a look at the casting number and the julian date code we can get close.

The casting number is on the rear of the block where the bell housing bolts on.
Right behind the heads. It is in the valley and elsewhere too, butttttttttttt seeing it is tough

Date code is on one side, casting ## on the other.

Many 6.2 engines were replaced with 6.5 n/a engines in later years, and the "GOODWENCH" :D stickers are a possible indicator (likely) that it has been changed out.
The question is it a reman 6.2 or 6.5 or a new crate engine when it was dropped in.

If you can get the casting number we can see if it has been swapped with a 6.5 ( Same basic engine)

Way too many years ago now.
The Willamette Valley I remember doesn't exists anymore.

Those casting numbers will have to wait until I pull it.
I don't bend the way I used to, to say nothing about my eye sight.

89 6.2 will be identical to any other 6.2 from 83-89 with a -660 casting number.

1990 was a changing year, they changed the head design.
