I will be taking my block and crank to the machine shop tommorow hopefully. What should be done to the rods? resized/new bolts? rods and pistons have at most 24to25 thousand on them. I have also heard of a couple of these engines being balanced. Does it help them out any? If anyone else has any helpful info on the rebuild of this thing it would be great. Thanks

If I was rebuilding I would
1) balance
2) go 18:1 pistons (wrist pin location is moved up on skirt)
3) gear timing
4) HO cooling
5) if rods are that fresh, I'd mic & inspect 'em, then reuse 'em if ok, subject to balance.
6) how many miles on block? journal webs known to crack if overheated/fatigued (ya get noise from this if its advanced to where you can see it). Magnaflux.
7) if you have the relieved journal crank (most of us do) w/radiused relief @ bearing surface edges, these are NOT recommended for grinding. I think there was an article on this here on TDP; check past year's article indexes on Join Us page. There's a name for the radiused relief that I can't recall (unlike Gray Davis); maybe somebody else is listening.
That's all I know and maybe more.
