I am new to this site and the world of diesels. I recently purchased a 1996 GMC 3500 Savana box van with the 6.5L TD. The Water in fuel sensor is missing from the bottom of the fuel filter that is mounted under the driver on the frame. Does anyone know the part number for this sensor and where is the best place to purchase? I also need a fuel tank sending unit p/n. Local dealer won't give the number but just quotes a horrible price.

Welcome to the wonderful, wacky world of GM "stealers."
Try gmpartsdirect.com (I'd give a 15% chance of finding these particular parts, but its free to click away).
Also, get yourself a factory repair manual from Helm.com; lotsa great info including troubleshooting of many common issues, wire loom & connector diagrams, blah, blah, blah.

Could you check the name on the site for the repair manual again. I went to Helm.com and it is a marketing company. Thanks

Don't know about your Savanna filter/sensor arrangement. On C/K there's a filter assembly with a heater on bottom, and a water sensor on side. If warm environment might not sweat missing heater....
