Hi guys
I have a suspect oil pressure gauge in my '97 C2500
Looking to fit manual gauge so my question is can I remove OPS and put manual gauge feed in there. I know I'll need to find another power source for the lift pump so what would be my best option for that?
Would disconnecting the OPS cause any other issues?

Kennedy Diesel sells a fuel pump relay kit that works great, and with that you could remove the stock ops and put a manual kit in it's place.

Or, simply put a tee in the block and then have the best of both worlds.

The KD fuel pump relay kit still includes the OPS, which is a USDOT required part of the fail-safe lift pump safety system. A great kit, but wont' do anything to help the OP with his question.

I have the T option but was trying to work out if there was another power option for the LP and would I get any funky warnings by not having OPS feed to dash gauge?
If I do go the T option then I'll need to run a relay on the LP feed side so as not to overwork the OPS.

OPS wires?
Grey Lift pump
Tan Dash gauge
Orange Live
Is this correct?

Well thanks for also not giving any answers to his question...

You're welcome.

He already has the suggestion I would have offered.

But I'll add, using a Tee or not has no bearing on a LP relay. The 1997 lift pump is already relayed, controlled by the PCM. The OPS is a redundant safety switch. If the engine stops w/o turning off the IGN switch (such as in a crash), the OPS stops the lift pump. The later models in OEM trim simply don't have the OPS issue of the earlier models. It would certainly be something to consider if converting to MFI, though.

So sounds like the simple option is to "T" off where the OPS is now.
That way none of the original specs is voided.
By the sounds of it the '97 won't need an additional relay fitted so all good.
Will be interesting to see the difference with the manual gauge.
If the stock gauge isn't lying then I have a high oil pressure problem to deal with.

What are your actual oil pressures that concern you? It may or may not be something to be concerned about. Confirming it with a mechanical gage is never a bad idea, but it may or may not be necessary.

Cold runs at 550 kpa
Once warmed up it will drop back to a bit over 3/4 on the gauge.
Will then idle just over halfway, about 300 kpa

Looks scary high to me hence then fact I'm trying to get an accurate fix on it

This issue (IF it's not the gauge) is way easier to fix than a really low reading.

For Chit's and giggles....toss in a new sender and see what shows.

My bet is that the sender is out to lunch...

A faulty sender can cause all manners of goofy readings.

I have a sender in a 1997 Astro that at idle wobbles between 20lb and 40lb
Raise the RPM a tad and its steady.

Another possibility.... does the gauge get goofy or change with the head lights on, or with the turn signals operating.

A bad ground can cause many issues....

Just some thoughts

Thanks Robyn
I'll post what the results are when I get the new gauge fitted.
Recovering from a broken shoulder so everything takes me longer to get done.
