I seen a video of a guy that cleaned his injectors by removing the fuel line and hooking up a 1 gallon jug with GM’s injector cleaner and diesel fuel, letting it idle for for one hour..

Any thoughts on this procedure?? My next door neighbor is a diesel mechanic ( big trucks ), he and another diesel mechanic said not to bother with it.

I have 400,000 miles on my rig and have never touched the injectors..I do use a fuel system/injector cleaner starting about 100,000 miles ago.

Thoughts..

I wouldn't bother. A good additive will do as good. Use more if you think more is better. If you want a heavy dose, 1/2 fill the filter when you change it.

Total Power

Use on a regular basis rather than periodic high doses.

I bought diesel extreme by Hot Shot, says it’s good for 6000 miles..I added 4oz to the filter and 4oz to the tank. I will look into the Total Power as well, thanks

On a side note, the neighbor I Mentioned in my opening statement, I told him what I did and he told me when he did a service on a big truck he filled the fuel filter 1/2 way with automatic trans fluid to clean the injectors.........

Old school. Nothing wrong with that.

I/we quit doing it some years ago when the revenuers started dipping tanks. ATF is red, and a little will stain the whole tankful. If you have no concerns with being accused of using off-highway fuel on the highway, go for it. Otherwise, be prepared to be guilty until you prove your innocence.

I hear ya...If I was running red fuel, and was pulled over, . they could pay for a chemical test....just sayin

Dye is dye. They won't "chemical test". There is a burden of proof, but you get the citation first. It's worse if you're commercial. In CA, DMV renewals and commercial permits can be delayed until any/all of the cases are resolved. It's been a while since I've heard it happening, but it has. In one case, it was dismissed "in the interest of justice" (rental truck), and in another, the fine was in excess of $100K (trucking company). The big fine case was probably an error by a few drivers. Two fuel pumps were available, one for the truck, and one for the refer/genset units. They since moved the off-highway fuel pump to a more remote area and changed their logging system so there should be no mistake, or a better level of accountability. Last I heard, it has worked, or at least they haven't been caught.

California takes its taxes serious. It's probably not as bad in a free state.

Some states don’t want anyone to make a living..I left California a couple years ago because of it..

Sad, but it seems that way. Also sad, Oregon isn't far behind.

I’ve been here over 2 years, and all I see are Trump signs, and they are on ranches and farmers land. It’s mostly conservative, the problem is swamps like Portland are where a majority of the left are and they out number the right..sad..

Yep. Said the same about L.A. and the bay area 30 years ago.

Another side note I installed Kennedy’s dual pump system and cleaned my injectors with Hot Shots diesel extreme at about the same time..I have a noticeable increase in throttle response and black smoke coming from the exhaust ( at full throttle)
I like Both conditions.

Should not be any with good tuning and a healthy running truck.

I've been using Total Power in my LBZ since new. 200,000 on the clock and only 1 injector problem about 30,000 miles ago - replaced it.

It’s only when I get my foot in It. Never had it tuned..400K on the odometer..
