strange noise, xmas bells?

this ones driving me nuts. :mad: i have a faint sound coming from what sounds like my engine compartment. the noise sounds like fairly deep sounding bells ringing(muffled).it starts at about 1500 rpm on acceleration in any gear and goes away at about 1800rpm. any ideas? thanks in advance

Piston 'slap'?? I think common on Mercedes (1980's) at idle.

I'm not sure about when the sound is heard but you might want to look at the torque converter. I have a 1 ton with a turbo 400 and have had to re-torque the 6 bolts holding the converter on. The sound is just like a big bell being hit. I don't know if this will do it but I'd sure check it!

i get a noise somewhat like what you describe,but mine is usually first thing in the morning before the engine is good and warm ,i think mine is baffles broke loose in the muffler.
