I thought I should share this build and ask you experienced guys for additional advice in regards to a 2007 LBZ I bought not long ago.

I fixed a lot of the pre purchase issues it had already. One current issue is a P003 code. I took it to 2 diesel shops and both said the turbo veins are sticking at 78%. They both recommended a new turbo. Sometimes the code/check engine light comes on and then turns off. It runs good overall.

So with the idea of replacing my turbo, I thought about other things that should get replaced while it is taken apart.

List of already installed upgrades:

1.Banks Intake

Here’s the current list of parts already purchased but not installed yet.

1. EGR Delete Kit
2. 5” Diamond Eye Exhaust, No Muffler
3. 3” Diamond Eye Downpipe
4. 64MM Fleece Cheetah Turbo
5. CTS3 Edge Insight
6. Pillar Mount For The Edge Insight

Additional items not purchased.

1. 10 over injectors
2. Pusher Y Bridge
3. Pusher Hotside
4. Pusher Coldside
5. Pusher Mouthpiece
6. Upgrade Fuel Pump
7. Transmission Build up
8. EFI Live
9. Motor Brake

So the goal is to turn it into a better tow rig, get a tad more power and keep reliability.

What do you experienced Dmax owners think? Other items that should be upgraded or not?

How many miles are on the engine? If over 100K, and with the upgrades you're planning, you could consider new head gaskets and ARP studs as a precaution. 2007 was the break-point for the introduction of the newer style riveted head gaskets, which was an improvement over those made earlier.

166,000 at the moment. A shop guy told me the Arp Headstuds could be installed one at a time without removing the heads on a Duramax if it was lower miles. Is this something worth trying to save shop costs at my mileage? How do I tell if it has the newer style head gasket? Just by year?
