Hi,
I am in need of the planetary gear set for a NP 241 transfer case. Does anyone know of a place to get one for a reasonable price, or should i just junk it and buy a new one? I guess the quest for power comes at a cost.
Thanks,
Justin

I replaced mine in my`95.It was about $800 from GM.I planned on keeping the truck a while.I figured by the time I bought parts and payed labor...Also,the warranty.Someone had a post here about a T-case rebuild and the shop quoted a price of $800-$1,000.I take it it`s been torn down and inspected and there is no further damage, other than planetaries.Have you priced the parts?

From GM I was quoted $1025 for a rebuilt plus core, and the cost of parts was about 300, for the planetary set, new shifting fork pads(which was the reason i tore it apart). I found some parts on ebay to piece it back together for now. I would still like to find a good case for a reasonable price and swap them out later.

Does anyone know what kind of transfer case is in my truck? my truck is a '93 K2500HD i know there is a difference with the brakes i bought brakes for a K2500 but because of it being a heavy duty model i needed to follow the instructions for a 3500 so would my truck being a heavy duty model carry a NP241 xcase or a Borg Warner Xcase? thanks

1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks use the New Process 241. Only the 1 tons use one of the 2 Borg Warner t-cases. You have the larger front axle setup on 3/4 and 1 ton models as well as the full-floater rear axle, only with the lighter t-case.

My`95K2500HD(8 lug)has a NP241.Can`t say about the `92K3500.I just assumed they were the same,Trans is.With over 200,000miles I`ve never had a problem,so I doubt it`s lighter.The T-case price I mentioned is -20%,but it was new and sold outright.Which was another reason I went that root.I`ve got a repairable spare.

Would I be able to use any new process 241 xcase in closer years like 92 or 94/95 in my '93 and if so does it have to be from a diesel truck? for example my local junk yard had a new process 241 xcase from a truck that had a 350 gasser it was a '94

I believe the transfer cases have a different number of splines on the input shaftfor a 4L80E transmission combo. The gassers i again believe have a lower number and the 4l80E/NP241 compo has 32???? I read it somewhere recently when we worked on my son's NP241 and considered finding a used unit.

If you do a search for rebuilt units on the internet you will find some sources that list them and show the number of splines.

Did all of the 241 tranfer cases use the speed sensor setup for the speedometer or did some use a cable?

Go to Gm parts counter, tell them you want to order transfer case for your model. Then ask what years does that part# apply to.Tell them you need to get back to them.Leave with the info you needed to purchase used unit. It`s ok,his pay`s the same.I don`t know what trans you have, but to play it safe, stay with same trans application.Unless you can get that info at part counter.I believe in those years you mentioned they will be the same.
