I have a Lexus LX470 with a 6.5Lt turbo optimizer and 4L80e trans. Purchased it with 40K km on both engine and trans. The DB2 fuel pump was tuned to develop 24PSI.
I can't fault the engine at all. I fully serviced the vehicle when I received it a year ago, never got round to cut the engine filters-main and bypass.
Well, I finally got round to cutting the filters- bypass first, very clean. Then the main filter was found to have a lot of very fine steel slithers in the filter base and throughout the filter media. There was also brass grain material resembling sand.
I then removed and cut the main oil filter that has only 1700km. This filter has the same again......
I have cut many diesel engine oil filters previously but have not come across this type of material before. Admittedly it's the first time I have had anything to do with these engines.
Initially I was thinking the engine has to be removed and stripped down to investigate the cause, then thought maybe this could be related to a timing chain issue.
Does anyone identify from the attached photos, what failure is occurring?
Whatever the cause it can't be normal, lucky I found this before something bad happens.
What are your thoughts?
