O.k. everybody. I'm going to upgrade to a HX35 turbo from an 01' Dodge and I would like to know from those of you in the know. I've been doing research on intercoolers and found that there are two general types:
1- tube & fin
2- bar & plate
Which design is better for heat transfer.?

What out there works the best for the 6.5TD?

I know that there are a lot of variables to take in like total surface area of the IC core, front mount or undermount, parameters of the turbo and the boost pressures, ease of installation, ......etc.
Thanks for any input.

Bar and plate is much sturdier.

Tube and fin are cheaper, and probably lighter.

Tube and fin offer less frontal resistance to airflow and generally are slightly smaller (area wise) for given heat transfer.

All that said, when I get mine, it will be bar and plate

cowracer:

Do you know what style the JK intercooler is.? It looks like its a bar & plate.

I know quite a few good welders and so does my brother. I'm not very thrilled about his advertised price. I'm confident that I can put together a system for less. I'll be patient and shop around for the best deal on the different pieces.
