It seems like there is a few of us who are in the midst of a major project (myself included). I figured an "all-encopassing" Status thread would be a good idea.

If you got a big project going, let us know about it.

Member: Cowracer

Project: Remove, Rebuild, and replace engine

Complete: 65%

Status: The Avants finished up the engine last week and it is in route to me right now.

I can certainly relate to the project process. It took 13 months to repair, rebuild, replace or install:
-engine
-oil cooler and remote filter lines
-thermastatic bypass to oil cooler
-injector pump, injectors, and hose kit
-turbo
-ceramic coated exhaust manifolds and cross over
pipe
-complete exhaust system
-remote fsd mount
-combination egt/boost gauge
-water pump and radiator hoses
-rear cylinder cross over cooling line
-front axle seal replacement
-rear driveshaft u-joints
-tires and wheels

my chassis is rolling, the 4l80 is off to the rebuilder, the PCS tranny controller is on the way. The block is back as of today, just waiting for time to lay the crank in the engine and check the deck height. Then it's on to resizing all the rods, then on to fly cutting the pistons. Cylinder heads now have metric stemmed valves for less weight and more airflow, which the new guides allow for positive lock valve seals. After that we get to figure out rocker geometry and pushrod length. Couple weeks before we go to the dyno.........finally

A little late, but I'll jump in here...

After a delay caused by moving from WA to CA, and a short stay at the body shop, I finally got the Wag back last month.

Project - Swapping a 1997 6.5 and 700R4 into a 1987 Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

Status - engine and trans are in. I just got exhaust parts back from being ceramic coated and can start putting that back together. I just ordered my EGT gauge so that I can drill and tap the manifold before I reinstall it. I dropped off a stock radiator at the shop so they can use it for a template on a new aluminum piece. The engine wiring harness is hanging above my workbench and I have all of the unnecessary circuits removed (ignition module, coil, etc...) and have modified a couple circuits for cold start, injection pump and glow plug controller. I still need to repair some "repair" work that the DSPO had done on the harness. I have a good used glow plug harness that I found in a wrecking yard (50 cents!!!) and I need to clean that up and get it installed.

As is indicated by another thread, I'm also working on the oil and trans cooler locations. I'm waiting for those to be delivered.

Last thing is the fuel system. I hope to get the tank pulled and cleaned this weekend, along with mounting the 2 Racor filters (10 micron and 2 micron) and electric fuel pump. This is a challenge in that there isn't much room to work with - the stock tank sits inside the frame rail and takes up the entire space from the t-case to the rear axle. I'll probably have to mount the pre-filter and pump outside the frame, and it looks like I can get the 2 micron stuffed in under the hood, though they may both end up on the frame.

Pics coming soon...
