My 1/2 ton 8.5" diff spider gears on the cross pin have movement of at least .050 in axially on the pin. I'm trying to find out what is acceptable and what is not - my factory manual doesn't say anything about what the tolerances are on non-limited slip spider gear setups.

This is the same for the axle bearings. Has anyone found what is an acceptable tolerance for the semi-floating axle bearings? Can they be too loose even if they don't make noise? Mine seem to have more radial movement than what seems to be correct, but again, there is no spec listed in the factory manual telling what is acceptable or not. With no replaceable race on the axle, it seems the best route is to replace axle and bearing together, but I've seen bearings that are supposed to work on unused axle surface.
